Understanding Climate Change Impacts on Gulf Cities in the Future

Background: Key AFED experts present their latest findings from the 2015 Sustainable Consumption in the Arab Countries report. Marking a first partial public release for the organisation, public opinion survey findings on consumption patterns will also be discussed.

National Blue Carbon Report Launch

  • Host: UAE Ministry of Environment & Water (MoEW), Environment Agency-Abu Dhabi (EAD), the Abu Dhabi Global Environment Data Initiative (AGEDI), and the International Blue Carbon Scientific Working Group

  • Background: The official release of the National Blue Carbon Report, featuring addresses from the partners and a discussion of the Project’s findings, which will help guide decision-making on climate change mitigation and the preservation of the UAE’s coastal ecosystems.

Demonstrators and Simulation Tools for Sustainable Cities

  • Background: An interactive presentation of different simulation tools to generate case studies based on virtual models of cities, including EDF City Lab, Virtual Singapore platform, Astainable, and Santiago Des3aDo.

  • Background: Selected teams present their sustainable ideas and solutions to a judging panel of industry experts, academia, start-up accelerators and consultants. Topics will include urban design for liveability and resilience, urban systems, footprints, and social systems.

Urban + Insight – “Urbinsight”

  • Background: A global initiative connecting cities and neighbourhoods with web-based crowd-mapping tools designed to explore, understand, and measure holistic urban health from a citizen’s perspective. A workshop will see experiences from pilot cities and community leaders presented, including from Casablanca, Cairo, Lima, and Abu Dhabi.
